September is upon us and plowing through to October fast. Please take a minute to review some club updates and reminders in this weeks ripples.
I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. Along with the unofficial end of summer comes start of our fall in Wisconsin (at least it feels that way). Usually the sports season is about to ramp up into a fantastic time of year with the kickoff of the Packers and Badgers football seasons, as well as the Brew Crew starting to ramp it up for playoff baseball.
This is your REMINDER that we have an evening outing planned on 9/14/2020 at 6pm at the Hotel Mead. No Noon Meeting. Weather permitting we will be gathering on the patio to socialize and gather with friends we haven’t gotten to see much of since March, and just catch up with each other. If you need more of an excuse than that we have decided to use the Brewers game as our excuse. One of these evening outings was planned be at a Rafters game. COVID foiled that plan so this is as close as we can do for this summer. Here are the details....
- Meeting on the patio at Hotel Mead around 6pm, no worries if you are late.
- Bring your mask in case we get moved indoors, we will be meeting rain or shine. Stay home if you are not feeling well.
- Purchase your beverages of choice at the tavern (down by the Riverside Ballroom)
- If you need food, the tavern also is serving Pizza’s on Monday nights.
- We will be offering a Zoom option again in case you want to attend but cannot join us in person.

Breaking news in the presidential election... The nominating committee has identified our 2022-23 Noon Rotary of Wisconsin Rapids club president. We are excited to announce Tim Young from the Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater has answered the call to action to fill this roll. The board has approved this nomination and the club will formally elect Tim at our next noon meeting. Tim will currently fill the position of our President Elect Nominee and will be in line to take office on July 1, 2022.
Lots of polio updates... Noon Rotary made Chuck Gibbons pay! Chuck matched $1,100 in pledges bringing our clubs PolioPlus contribution to $2,200. Nice work everyone that contributed to our mini-PolioPlus drive. I would like to thank Chuck for his leadership and action on challenging the club. I would also like to thank John Steel, Jerry Feith, Richard Kenney, Susan Feith, Ahmad Mussalum, Jake Close, Phil Brown, Kent Anderson, Tammi Jepson, Sue Sippel, Warren Miller, Rob McGrath, Andy Barnett, Greg Nettesheim, Craig Broenen, Amy Gust, George Mead, and Mike O’leary. Look for your invoice for these pledges that was e-mailed out on 9/1/2020 via ClubRunner. If you didn’t receive it be sure to check your spam. As we wrapped up our August pledge we were informed that Africa was declared wild poliovirus-free Polio Free.

And last for now, October 24, 2020 is World Polio Day is a time for Rotarians and Rotaractors across the globe to raise awareness about our work to eradicate polio for good. If we stay committed to making progress, polio will be the second human disease ever to be eradicated. Rotary Direct and Every Rotarian every year... Don’t forget that we are not invoicing you for $25.00 a quarter anymore. This eliminates excessive clerical work. It is super easy to do your part and donate through rotary direct. Remember this is how we are eligible to apply for district grants and matching funds. To achieve this we need to average $100 per Rotarian per year. Our money donated to to the RI Annual fund goes to RI to use for a few years and then returns to our district, thus the funds come back to our region.

Youth Rotars will be back in October! Please make them feel welcome and engage with them as much as able to via zoom. As soon as we get back to meeting in person (the board is working on this) we will invite them to both and they will have the option to choose to meet in person or via Zoom with us.
